Shaping Influence: Bashar Kayal's Path to Stardom in Arab Gaming

With over a decade of experience in content creation, award winning influencer and content creator Bashar Kayal shares insights into his decade long journey, the resonance of gaming culture in the Middle East, and the future of the industry in the region.

Bashar's journey into content creation began in 2010 with a simple desire to share his gaming skills in Call of Duty with friends. "It started as a hobby," Bashar recalls. "I had a passion for gaming, and I wanted to produce the best content I could." Little did he know that his hobby would evolve into a full-fledged career, captivating audiences around the world.

"It was merely a hobby, but I continued creating content from 2010 to 2020 without earning any money in return. I possess a deep passion for video games and aimed to produce the highest quality gaming content possible. Fortunately, starting from 2020 onwards, my channel gained significant popularity, and creating gaming content is now my full-time occupation." Bashar adds.

A significant portion of Bashar's content is tailored for the Arabic audience, a deliberate choice driven by his commitment to connecting with viewers on a personal level. "I consistently ask them about the type of content they would like to see," Bashar explains. "Their feedback shapes my content strategy, ensuring that I cover topics and games that resonate with them."

"I try my best to produce content that aligns with my audience's interests. For example, I prioritize creating content about Call of Duty since it resonates with my audience, and they anticipate updates and coverage of new developments within the game."

Through extensive research, Bashar has identified specific games and genres that resonate deeply with Middle Eastern players. "Minecraft emerged as the most played game among Middle Eastern players," Bashar reveals. "However, preferences may vary over time, reflecting the evolving gaming landscape in the region."

Beyond entertainment, Bashar sees his content as an opportunity to challenge negative perceptions surrounding gaming in the Middle East. "I strive to highlight the benefits and potential of video games," Bashar asserts. Through informative videos and positive storytelling, he aims to reshape perceptions and foster a more inclusive gaming culture.

Arabic content creators like Bashar play a pivotal role in shaping gaming culture in the Middle East. "We have the power to influence trends and preferences," Bashar notes. From popularizing specific games to championing new genres, content creators drive conversations and shape the gaming landscape in the region.

Looking ahead, Bashar sees tremendous potential for the gaming industry in the Middle East, especially with increased support from governments and official institutions. "Initiatives like Gamers8 and the Esports World Cup signal a bright future for gaming in the region," Bashar predicts. With government backing and growing interest, the industry is poised for exponential growth.

"I am of the opinion that the gaming industry in the region could undergo significant evolution with increased attention and support from government and official institutions. A notable example is the success of the Saudi Overwatch team, which emerged victorious in the 2023 Overwatch World Cup. When questioned about their outstanding performance, the players credited the extensive support they received from the government. Notably, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar attended the finals match and showed his support by cheering for the team. Similar governmental support has been observed for Msdossary, who has clinched over 10 FIFA championships. Consequently, there are clear indications that the gaming industry is already experiencing growth and development in the region."

For global gaming brands to better serve Middle East audiences, Bashar emphasizes the importance of Arabic localization and cultural understanding. "Supporting Arabic localization and adapting games to fit our region is crucial," Bashar explains. By respecting cultural sensitivities and preferences, gaming brands can forge stronger connections with Middle East audiences.

As Bashar Kayal continues to inspire and innovate in the world of gaming content creation, his vision for a thriving gaming culture in the Middle East remains optimistic.
